Michael Jackson the “King of Pop” gave us forty five (45) years of solid entertainment. His music reached even the die hard reggae fan and artist alike. Many reggae artists covered his music. Dancehall and clash fans are sure to remember Shine Head’s version of Billy Jean, which many sounds used as a big dub at dances. Little Kirk’s performed a rendition of man in the mirror live at Sting. Whatever comes to mind, we can clearly see how Michael Jackson impacted reggae music. Here is a short list of artists who has covered Michael Jackson’s songs. Sanchez, Yellow man/ Peter Metro, Ghost, Wayne wonder/Buju Banton, Jr Reid, Duane Stephenson, Taurus Riley, Garnet Silk, Sugar Minott. We are sure you can add to this list if you thought about it for a moment.
Marathon Reggae Session:
Last Saturday (4th July) we witnessed a marathon session of live
reggae music in Va. Beach. The session showcased the Itations Band
backing the Sons of Thunder and Jomo P. The event kicked off a little
bit after 4 pm. with BlackStarliner sounds blazing music for 3 non stop
hours. The Itations band then took over and proceeded to play an extended set and we enjoyed it to the maximum. After their
lengthy spirited performance, they had energy to back JahgGub for two songs and Gravity, who did a hip hop stint which was quite
refreshing. A short break with BlackStarliner kept patrons entertained
as Sons of Thunder prepared and then took the floor by storm, performing
hits upon hits. Their long awaited album should be out shortly, we
hope! The next break was short and it was time for Jomo P, the final
act. A veteran artist, Jomo did his thing as only he can, with tunes
after tune, and hits upon hits. We finally left the venue a little
after 1 am and the show was still going strong. We applaud the Itations
band for being so dedicated to their music. You should have been there
to witness this marathon Reggae session. By the way it was absolutely
free.
